Chapter 2
With Chapter 1 complete,
He held his chin in his hand,
And gazed intensely out the window.
The birds flew by his second story apartment.
How was it so easy that they could glide through life,
As he sat in his apartment writing to support his own,
With the sound from the next room distracting him.
Peering around the corner he saw the glow of the TV,
Wondering if it was something more interesting,
But none of this mattered to his pen and paper.
So he picked the pen back up and proceeded with his task.
He wrote “And I Can’t Guess” for the title,
As it was a parallel to Chapter 1, “And I Don’t Know”,
But his eyes grew tired, and he began to snore.
The rain hit the window as he abruptly awoke from his sleep.
Lightning cracked and the lights went out.
He began to look for the candles that he kept at his desk,
And noticed his pen had leaked ink onto page 103,
And it had soaked through the entire story.
Running for the sink to try and wash the ink away,
He tripped and fell, hitting his head on the hardwood floor.
He awakened as he fell out of his chair onto the cold floor.
Quickly jumping to his feet he noticed his pen and novel were fine.
With such a scare stirring in his mind he quickly began to write again.
Finishing page after page, for he knew the story by heart.
Time flew by and he began to hear a child’s voice.
But there was no stopping him now, he was only minutes away.
He closed the book as the last minute passed.
